Bank Street’s Progressive Leadership Program (MSEd, EdM) is a master’s degree program in K-12 educational leadership designed for passionate educators who want to effect positive change by learning to instill systems-wide progressive values and practices in your setting to make instruction and learning more meaningful. Our graduates become qualified for a range of leadership roles at the school, district, state, and national levels, including educational administrator, assistant principal, and principal.

The program leads to a master’s degree and completion of the New York School Building Leader (SBL) certification for those who meet experience requirements and pass the required state assessments. Graduates of the Progressive Leadership program are eligible to take our 5-credit School District Leader sequence and be eligible for the New York State School District Leader (SDL) certification for those who meet the experience and credit requirements, and who pass the state assessments.

The Bank Street Approach to Leadership Education

The Progressive Leadership Program at Bank Street will help you become a leader who knows how to think and work collaboratively, understand and reflect. You will learn about Bank Street’s approach to leadership, study current and historical administrative practices and theories, explore ways to create culturally responsive learning environments, and master the skills needed for positive school and educational reform and leadership.
